WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF THE TEST?

WHO WILL BE TESTED?
Every student in grades 4, 6, 8, and 10 will be tested. The test results are mailed to the State Department of Education and published.
WHAT ARE THE STANDARDS FOR THE TEST?
Each test has a specific goal that is considered acceptable by the State of Connecticut. It is important to note that these standards are FROM THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT, and may differ from other states or standardized physical fitness tests that may exist. The state has established two standards. The first standard is the "health standard". A student completing a test at the "health standard" or above, is considered by the State of Connecticut to be physically fit for that category. The second standard is the "challenge standard". The "challenge standard" recognizes exceptional physical fitness in a specific area. However, the State of Connecticut only considers students who have passed all four objectives as "physically fit" when they publish the results.
HOW WILL THE STUDENT OR PARENT KNOW IF THEY PASSED A TEST?
As part of physical education, a lot of time is spent going over and practicing the fitness test. Additionally, the students are shown the chart that includes all of the requirements needed to be considered passing. Charts are also posted in the gymnasium. A student will know if they passed a test or not after completing an objective. If you would like to view the standards chart, please click one of the following links.
